Paul Sutphin Remembered

We were all saddened by the recent loss of guitarist and singer Paul Sutphin. Paul died on August 26th in his home in Mount Airy, North Carolina. He was 85 years old. Paul was a member of the famed Camp Creek Boys, the Surry Country ensemble of the 1960s that defined the sound of many stringbands to follow. Paul also lent his talents to the New Camp Creek Band on Kirk’s Grandpa’s Favorites. Paul added his trademark “Clawhammer Guitar” to Lee County Blues and Honey Suckle. A complete obituary by Paul Brown can be found in the Old Time Herald.
