If you were listening to Kirk Sutphin, Lisa Sutphin and Eddie Bond on a pitch black night, you would be amazed to see them come dawn. Such ancients sounds could not come from such young hands and voices. All three members of this young trio have been playing and singing Old Time tunes and songs since their childhood. In particular they have focused their attention on the sounds of North Carolina and Virginia.

The trio excels in recreating the classic “Round Peak Sound,” lending a careful ear to Tommy Jarrell and Camp Creek Boys, but this is only part of the vein they tap. Emmett Lundy, the Kimble Family, DaCosta Woltz’s Southern Broadcasters, and the volumes of E.V. Stoneman are all lovingly recreated by Kirk, Eddie and Lisa.

Beyond the mountain tunes so commonly associated with Old Time music, Kirk Sutphin is an expert on the Old Time music of the Piedmont. Few musicians, if any, have the command of the challenging repertoire of Charlie Poole’s North Carolina Rambler on both fiddle and banjo.

Lisa Sutphin in addition to her fine harmony singing is an extraordinary guitarist. Eschewing the modern flat pick in favor of an older thumb and finger pick style; Lisa is a rhythmic deva on the guitar.

Eddie Bond a native of Fries, Virginia he follows in the footstep of the songster E.V. Stoneman. Eddie singing is the perfect combination of clarity and grit, making him one of the best singers in Old Time music today. He’s no slouch on the fiddle either, with countless Fiddler’s Conventions ribbons on his wall.
